Superior FCS march past Birnapa

MALTA (MELITA GROUND) FC Scandinavia 6 - Birnapa 0: FCS went into this game slightly favourites having won the first match, and as the result shows, they dominated the game from the beginning till the end. Even though  FCS had to introduce new players due to injuries, suspensions and availabilities, they still were the better side on the pitch and in the end they won by a comfortable margin.

Birnapa had the first chance of the game in the fifth minute when Brian Zammit nearly scored after he lobbed the ball over FCS goalie Joelsson, but captain Johan Nyberg was there to clear the ball off the line. From this point on, FCS started to build confidence and took control of the match. A penalty should have been awarded in the 8th minute after Torben Vedstesen was clearly put down by Migneco in the box.

Many chances

Lars Johansson missed a clear opportunity in front of goal on the 10th minute when he hit the post after being sent through by Emiliano Sener. On the quarter of an hour, debutant Camilo Braz took a shot from outside the box and Birnapa’s keeper Saviour Agius parried the ball with difficulty. The goal was in the air and in the 13th minute LARS JOHANSSON scored after a perfect through ball from Hannes Wåhlin.

Sener dangerous on left flank

Birnapa were clearly in shock and 2 minutes later Torben Vedstesen took the ball from a defender just outside the opponents’ box and sent LARS JOHANSSON through on goal; who had no difficulty to make it 2-0. In the 18th minute, Torben Vedstesen shot high after a good cross from the left by Emiliano Sener. Birnapa tried to reduce the margin on the 21st minute when Alan Zammit shot off target after a well taken corner by Richard Attard.

Torben on fire

On the half hour mark, FCS made 3-0. An excellent cross from the left by Joakim Bäckman was parried by Agius and the ball fell kindly to KALLE WÅHLIN who had no problem to put the ball in the open net. Six minutes later FCS scored again when Hannes Wåhlin picked Emilio Sener on the left who put a low cross shot in the small box which was slotted home by TORBEN VEDSTESEN.

Delsinger on for Wåhlin

FCS started the second half slowly with no need to put pressure on the opponents and controlling the game. In the 13th minute, Lars Johansson received a through ball from Torben Vedstesen, but his lob went over the bar. Five minutes later, sub Sebastian Delsinger picked Sener on the left but his shot was wide of goal. In the 26th minute, Kalle Wåhlin hit the bar from a corner taken by Joakim Bäckman.

Ten minutes from the end, Birnapa were awarded a controversial penalty after Hansen was seen by the referee handling the ball in the penalty box. However, Alan Zammit’s shot was brilliantly saved by Niklas Joelsson who had not been really tested up to that point in time.

Top of the league

Four minutes from the end, FCS scored again when CLAES HANSEN shot the ball home after a corner taken by Delsinger. In injury time, Delsinger put Johansson through on goal but his shot his the bar and TORBEN VEDSTESEN was there to make it 6-0.

The convincing victory brings FCS to the top of the table. Can they stay there? Next match is against AD 2000 on November 1st.
